 About the Bahamas

Visiting the Bahamas usually includes lounging on beautiful beaches, diving or
snorkeling in the world's third largest barrier reef and visiting the
world renowned Atlantis resort on Paradise Island and capital city of
Nassau. There are over 700 islands and cays in the Bahamas, 23 of which
are populated and many of which are grouped by name into chains of islands
such as the Exumas islands.
Bahamians celebrate their independence on the tenth of July, the day in 1973 when
the Bahamas islands became independent from the UK. Since the Bahamas
islands are only 50 miles off the Florida coast, it is a short stop away
for Americans to enjoy all the benefits of the Caribbean islands. Further
simplifying travel, English is spoken throughout the islands and the Bahamian
dollar (BSD) is kept at par with the US dollar.
